Meh.
The band's newer stuff was impressive - catchy syncopation, powerful harmonies, and uncommonly-good lyrical styles. Even some doo-wop.
When launching into tunes from the past, however, it was troubling how much Steven Page's unique voice is missed. The songs weren't bad - they were just different. Really different.
It's obvious that Ed Robertson is (and was) a key contributor to the mirth and joy of the concert-goers. And Ed was giving it everything he had, and if I'd never heard the band before, that probably would have been enough.
But I've got history with these guys, so while it was good, it wasn't great.
Damn you, Steven Page, and your cocaine and party girls. You had a good gig going and you blew it.
