Boycott Arizona

The draconian immigration law recently passed in Arizona demonstrates the power of small groups of crazy people when they are in charge.

We're people. What can we do?

Attorney Michael Yaki, writing at SFGate, has some thoughts:

Illegal immigration is a problem. Perhaps this law galvanizes a reluctant Congress and Administration to tackle it. But mere displeasure, even outrage, at federal inaction is no excuse to enact a law that has its antecedents in a dictatorship, not a democracy, and certainly not American democracy.

There is one way to express displeasure and opposition to the outrageous action of the Arizona legislature. Boycott the state. Cancel conventions. Shift golf vacations to Oregon, New Mexico, Florida, the Carolinas. And as painful as it may seem, if the state of affairs continues next year, it may be time to think the unthinkable -- missing the annual fan and beerfest known as spring training.

That's change we can believe in. Don't drop any coins to support Arizona.

Save Stephen Baldwin

What is it with those Baldwin boys, anyway? You'd think with all of their trials and tribulations that they would have exited Hollywood a long time ago.

But poor Stephen learned that the 90210 is a cruel mistress once you accept Christ as your savior. Steve's been knocked on his ass.



At first, the whole thing didn't ring true to me. Hello? I'm The Skeptimist. But then I read a couple of entries from the FAQ section of the movement's web site:

Q- Why does Stephen need personal wealth?

A- Stephen’s influence is in Hollywood. Hollywood worships money and without it you are seen as a loser and cannot be an effective influence to this group.

Q- How much money does he need?

A- From what I read in public court documents Stephen needs several million dollars to pay all of his creditors but he deserves hundreds of millions for his Job like faithfulness in the face of relentless loss and persecution.

Well, hells to the yeah. Makes perfect sense to me.

If Stephen deserves that kind of scratch, I'm opening a PalPal account for myself. My belief in the FSM has resulted in the NBA refusing to take my calls. It can't be because I'm an short, old white guy.

If Tea Baggers Were Black

Imagine...

Imagine that hundreds of black protesters were to descend upon Washington DC and Northern Virginia, just a few miles from the Capitol and White House, armed with AK-47s, assorted handguns, and ammunition. And imagine that some of these protesters —the black protesters — spoke of the need for political revolution, and possibly even armed conflict in the event that laws they didn’t like were enforced by the government? Would these protester — these black protesters with guns — be seen as brave defenders of the Second Amendment, or would they be viewed by most whites as a danger to the republic? What if they were Arab-Americans? Because, after all, that’s what happened recently when white gun enthusiasts descended upon the nation’s capital, arms in hand, and verbally announced their readiness to make war on the country’s political leaders if the need arose.

Imagine that white members of Congress, while walking to work, were surrounded by thousands of angry black people, one of whom proceeded to spit on one of those congressmen for not voting the way the black demonstrators desired. Would the protesters be seen as merely patriotic Americans voicing their opinions, or as an angry, potentially violent, and even insurrectionary mob? After all, this is what white Tea Party protesters did recently in Washington.

Just imagine.

Somail Pirates Are Subsidiary of Goldman Sachs

Andy Borowitz is a very funny man.

Eleven indicted Somali pirates dropped a bombshell in a U.S. court today, revealing that their entire piracy operation is a subsidiary of banking giant Goldman Sachs.

An audible gasp could be heard in court when the leader of the pirates announced, "We are doing God's work. We work for Lloyd Blankfein."

The pirate, who said he earned a bonus of $48 million in dubloons last year, elaborated on the nature of the Somalis' work for Goldman, explaining that the pirates forcibly attacked ships that Goldman had already shorted.
